Bhoomi Movie Review : Sanjay Dutt is strong as an Old Man

bhoomi movie review

Sanjay Dutt is playing role of his own age for the first time in this movie. He is playing father of Aditi Rao Hydari (Bhoomi). It is a mix of emotion, revenge, justice, & father-daughter love. Sanjay Dutt has played a doting father who shares a wonderful bond with his daughter in the first half. In the second half, he becomes an angry man who takes revenge for her daughter’s dignity.

He owns a shoe store in the city & has a friend named “Taj” played by Shekhar Suman. He has done well as a friend & supporter.

Film starts lightly with preparation of marriage of Bhoomi & Neeraj played by Sidhant Gupta.

And very soon takes a harsh turn with rape of Bhoomi just before marriage.

The rape films are taken seriously because it happens a lot in India. Still there is not a way to stop such crimes. People relate to such sensitive issues. In last few months we have seen many movies made on similar concept. Bhoomi is similar rape revenge drama. The film has few scenes which could have been made much better. It is successful in portraying the emotions of father daughter love. But there were many loopholes in presenting crucial scenes like the courtroom scene. They should have taken some inspiration from Court room scenes from “Pink”

It gets unrealistic when an old man takes on all the goons single handedly. It shows a man fighting & plotting against the culprits. Sanjay Dutt is a great actor and has given us many lovely characters to cherish in his films. This film is a comeback film for Sanjay but a good script was absent. Dialogues in the film were not that strong keeping in consideration the concept of the film.

Verdict

Omung Kumar fails at many places as director. Like Shekhar Suman dies after banging a pole but Sanjay Dutt stands up even after getting stabbed. We can understand such things happening in Bollywood but when we will start treating actors as humans not superhumans. Aditi Rao Hydari on the other hand has played a powerful girl in a meek frame. She plays her part really well. Sharad Kelkar(Dholi) has very conflicting personality. On one hand he is a man of high principles & on other he is so corrupt & shrewd. Movie has good songs and can be kept on your playlist. On acting part I can say, good work is done by all the actors especially Sanjay Dutt. He has done well on his part. We would like to see him again in a better script & with a better director.

I am giving this film 2.5 stars out of 5.
