Qarib Qarib Singlle Movie Review : Parvathy shines in her Bollywood Debut

Qarib Qarib Singlle

Qarib Qarib Singlle is a story about companionship & love. In a unique way, film portrays a blooming love between a girl & guy who have met through a dating site called “Ab tak Singlle”. These two people are strange in their own sense. Yogi (Irrfan Khan) is a poet whose poetry does not sell, but he makes money through royalty by suggesting different dishes to restaurants. Although his character is pretty weird but is very clear at heart. Whereas Jaya (Parvathy) is entirely different, she lives in Mumbai alone since her Husband’s death. She is an independent woman struggling with her loneliness, spending her time taking her friend’s children to shopping or taking care of her friend’s cat.

Both the characters meet and become good friends. Jaya finds Yogi very different but keeps on meeting him and one day they plan to go together to meet Yogi’s ex-girlfriends which leads to start of a journey which comprise of Flights, trains, taxis and so many places. They travel to Hrishikesh,Jaipur & Gangtok just to meet Yogi’s  Ex-girlfriends. In their journey they discover various facades of each other’s personality travelling through these places. Although it is a road film with so many places in back drop but the film loses on to capture the scenic beauty.

Parvathy in a character of 35 year old widow looks very convincing. She essayed her role very well from a woman who needs someone in her life to a women falling for someone. In her debut Bollywood project she has acted well. On the other hand Irrfan also impresses us with his strange simplicity. At certain places, movie looses the pace but its a small glitch which can be over looked.

There are a lot of people they meet in their journey, from his girlfriends to her only boyfriend. A very spectacular thing about their journey is Yogi missing every damn thing every time from an airplane to a train throughout the movie. Their sprawling chemistry despite being an odd couple seems very enticing.

This movie is definitely worth a watch for all the people single or committed. It’s a wonderful movie subtly telling the need of companionship & love in human life. I am giving this movie 3 out of 5 stars.
